Scouts will tell you that it takes time to plan and execute an exciting weekend campout. Their planning included site selection, meal menus, advancement and merit badge activities, and scheduled time for fun, games, and team building. The Scouts planned it all with guidance from their adult leaders. This year’s June weekend campout included a 5-mile orienteering hike, a community service project (trash pickup during the hike), swimming, archery, riflery, campsite cooking opportunities, and outdoor sports like baseball, football, and spike ball.
The weekend was packed with excitement, and one Scout had this say, “the June campout was fun, and I enjoyed serving our community.” Outdoor activities are integral to the Scouting experience, and the lessons taught to prepare the Scouts for these adventures – tent setup, fire starting, map and compass reading, first aid, and the leave no trace principals – are life skills that will benefit them into adulthood.
